Supporting People is open to a range of clients that would ordinarily find everyday tasks and activities difficult without the help of a support worker to assist them.
This service is available to those individuals that may have:
What ever your disability, it is vital that your independence is encouraged and is central to any service you may wish to receive.
Valuing you as an individual
All people with a learning disability have the right to lead their lives and should be able to cease the same opportunities while having the same responsibilities, just like any other person living in the community.
Our focus at Basing Care embodies the ethos of, Valuing People Now (2008) and works in cooperation with Ordinary People Leading Ordinary Lives, a school of thinking initiated by Hampshire’s Learning Disabilities Strategy (2009).
Both these philosophies, recognise that people with a learning disability have their own, individual ‘rites of passage’ that they may wish, or need to fulfill throughout their lives and which is unique to them.
To help establish skills for independent living and to fulfill your life aspirations, our skilled and experienced staff will provide a circle of support, which involves networking with all relevant organisations to help you achieve this.
By understanding what direction and interests you may have, our support staff can resource all relevant agencies regarding social and recreational activities, suitable educational courses and even future employment.
This all-encompassing service, concurrent with an holistic approach in respect of all your needs, enables us to help you reach your goals and aspirations and make them a reality. Furthermore, we endeavour to designate support workers that share similar interests and hobbies to your own. Maybe you’re interested in music, films or sports or maybe you have a keen interest in the natural world. What ever your passion, our staff are there to support, encourage an empower you, so that you may embrace every opportunity that life has to offer, however ordinary or extraordinary it may be.
How will I pay for my care?
Much has changed over the past few years, this is due to the government piloting and introducing direct payment funding schemes known as Direct Payments* or the Independent Living Fund**. These two means of financial support are considered to give individuals (that qualify for these self funding schemes), more of a choice and some flexibility regarding how they wish to spend it.
This now means that individuals in need of care and support, are able to choose for themselves in terms of what service they would like and even have a say in how and where their budget is spent. Both these payment schemes enable individuals to decide what kind of services and support they feel is most suitable for their needs.
To find out more about this method of financial support, you will need to contact your local Adult Social Care office, who will then in turn come and visit you and explain how direct payments work. We can also assist you regarding applying for extra benefits and help with the filling out of application forms. This is a free service and is included within our services for Supporting People.
Once all relevant financial assessments have been carried out, which deciphers the level of financial entitlement you can receive, this then gives you a realistic view of the level of service you need and what you can realistically afford to purchase.
* Direct Payments – These are payments made by local councils to people who are in receipt social care services. Direct Payments are in place of the services you may be currently receiving. To see if you’re eligible for the Direct Payment scheme, you will need to be assessed by your local council/social services. You can contact your local council for more information regarding Direct Payments, or visit: www.direct.gov.uk.
** Independent Living Fund – This is a method of payment that enables the service user to purchase their care from an agency. Or even employ your own personal assistant to assist you with all your needs. Independent Living Fund is an initiative of the Department of Work and Pensions. The payments are awarded on a four weekly basis and paid directly to the individual, where they are responsible to effectively manage to pay for your care accordingly.
